POLICY FOR ACCEPTABLE DENTAL AND DENTAL HYGIENE CONTINUING EDUCATION HOURS FOR LICENSURE RENEWAL

Preamble: The purpose of this policy is to address the minimum acceptable dental and dental hygiene continuing education hours for licensure renewal during the course of a biennium. Any dentist or dental hygienist who intends to renew their license at the end of a biennium must obtain the requisite number of continuing education hours from an approved Permanent, Biennial, or American Dental Association CERP Sponsor in the categories set forth in Section 4715.141(A)(1) through 4715.141(A)(7) of the Ohio Revised Code.

As the Board has determined that the intent of dental and dental hygiene continuing education is to improve the clinical application of dentistry and dental hygiene to the citizens of the state of Ohio, dentists and dental hygienists who take the same exact course more than once during a biennium will only be permitted to claim the total continuing education hours for the first completion of the course.
