POLICY FOR NERB REMEDIATION FOR APPLICANTS FOR DENTAL LICENSURE IN THE STATE OF OHIO

Preamble: Ths purpose of this policy is to address the concerns of the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB) regarding Ohio's policy for remediation after more than one NERB exam failure.

If an applicant for licensure as a dentist in the state of Ohio fails the examination administered by the North East Regional Board of Dental Examiners (NERB) two (2) times, he/she will be required to satisfactorily complete eighty (80) hours of remediation approved in advance by the Ohio State Dental Board (Board) before again sitting for the NERB examination.

If an applicant fails the NERB examination three (3) times, he/she will be required to satisfactorily complete one of the following before being permitted to again sit for the NERB examination:

  • One (1) year of an Advanced Dental Education or Specialty Program approved in advance by the Board;
  • Repeat the 4th year of a clinical program approved in advance by the Board;
  • A special remediation course created and approved in advance by the Board.

If the NERB examination is failed three (3) times, the entire exam must be retaken. If after remediation the NERB exam is not successfully passed the 4th time, the applicant must continue to retake the entire exam a 5th, 6th, etc. times.
